Wellness visits and comprehensive exams play a significant role in maintaining your health.
Health professionals administer preventive screenings and services to assess and reduce your risk for diseases and conditions such as high blood pressure and osteoporosis. According to Anand Parekh, MD, MPH, making sure you are up to date on preventive services is one of the most important things you can do to stay healthy. (1)
There are many screenings all adults should be getting regularly. A full list of our services can be found on our page. However, some exams are specifically geared toward certain types of people. For example, the U.S. Department of Health and Humans Services (HHS) has a list of recommended preventive services specifically for women’s health. One of these is mammograms.
Nearly 200,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer annually in the U.S., and 40,000 women die from it. But a woman’s risk of dying from breast cancer can drop substantially with regular mammograms, according to the CDC. Men also have certain screenings directed specifically at them. If you have ever smoked and you are a man who is between ages 65 and 75, you should be screened for abdominal aortic aneurysm risks. The abdominal aorta, the largest artery in the abdomen, can be weakened by smoking.
Regular health exams and tests can help find problems before they start. They also help find problems early, when your chances for treatment and cure are better. By getting the right health services, screenings and treatments, you are taking steps that help your chances for living a longer, healthier life.
