At Invision Sally Jobe, our technologists play an important role in delivering compassionate care and supporting patients throughout their healthcare journey. We recently spoke with one of our technologists about what inspired them to pursue a career in radiography and what they enjoy most about the field.
What drew you to the Radiography field?
“I got interested in radiography because of my aunt. She had a lot of health issues growing up and was always getting scans done. Seeing that made me want to be part of something that helps people when they’re going through tough times. I liked the idea of doing something meaningful and being able to make a difference, which is what drew me to this field.”
What do you enjoy about working as a technologist?
“One of the things I enjoy most about working as a technologist is the people I work with—the sense of community is really strong. I also really enjoy being able to help patients, especially now that I’m in pain management. A lot of the time, patients come in hurting and leave feeling better after their procedure, which is really rewarding. Overall, I just like being able to help people and play a part in getting them the care they need.”
How did RIA/ISJ support your transition into your new role?
“RIA/ISJ really supported my transition into my new role. When I was in school, they were super flexible with my schedule while I was working as a registrar, which made a big difference. My coworkers and supervisors were also really supportive and encouraging throughout the whole process. Because of that, I knew I wanted to stay and continue working here after I graduated.”
What aspects of Radiography education programs would be helpful for our employees to know?
“Radiography programs are a really great option for people who want to get into healthcare without committing to a full four-year degree. For me, I finished my prerequisites in about a year, and then the program itself was only two years—which actually flew by. I went through Red Rocks Community College, and one of the big advantages was that it was more affordable than a lot of other schools. It is pretty competitive to get into, but that just means you’re surrounded by people who are really motivated and serious about the field.
Another big plus is that our workplace now offers tuition assistance or support while you’re in the program, so you can work and go to school at the same time and transition into a tech role more easily. One of the best parts was the people I met. I still keep in touch with a lot of them, and it made the whole experience way more enjoyable. It was such a hands-on program.
Overall, it’s a faster, more affordable path into a solid healthcare career, and it ended up being a really great experience for me.”
